NIE staff and students now have access to the Freedom Collection from publishing giant Elsevier. This journal collection contains nearly all ScienceDirect journal titles and is only available to academic libraries. Users can now access full-text articles from 2017 onwards, with new content added annually.
Renowned for publishing journals, textbooks and reference works in various areas of the sciences (health, life, physical and social), Elsevier’s resources consist of advanced, research-based content targeted towards academics, researchers and graduate students.
Elsevier is acclaimed for ScienceDirect and Scopus, with ScienceDirect being the main platform for access to the company’s peer-reviewed electronic resources, which include journals, ebooks, reference works, and handbooks. Scopus is an abstract and citation database that covers peer-reviewed journals in the fields of science, technology, medicine, social science, and arts and humanities.
What’s New
As part of the Library's existing subscription to 100 journals from Elsevier, Library users get complimentary access to over 1,000 journals in the Freedom Collection.
Journal available on ScienceDirect through Freedom Collection
With the Freedom Collection, users can now enjoy expanded access to journals in all Elsevier subject collections. While the collection’s core subject areas include the sciences, psychology, technology and medicine, users will be able to discover a collection of titles from the arts, humanities, economics, as well as social sciences.
While library users can expect to access most of the non-subscribed content on the ScienceDirect platform, there are some titles that have been excluded due to various reasons including opting out by publishers and societies. Examples of these titles include Cell Press, Lancet, Seminars and Clinics titles.
In addition to journals, users can also access complimentary chapters from ebooks, textbooks and reference works published by Elsevier.
