The Library is adopting a new approach to collection development by launching an Evidence-Based Acquisition (EBA) pilot programme with the publisher Taylor & Francis (T&F).
What is Evidence-Based Acquisition?
EBA is a new approach to the purchasing of library resources that blends access with data-driven purchasing decisions. For an agreed period (usually 12 months), library users can access a broad collection of electronic resources.
Throughout this period, usage data of the collection is tracked. At the end of the period, the most-used resources are permanently added to the library’s collection based on this evidence.
2024 EBA Agreement with Taylor & Francis
From 1 June 2024 to 31 May 2025, NIE staff and students have access to an online collection of more than 1,500 titles from the 2023 and 2022 T&F Education Collections.
The key highlight of the EBA model is that it provides initial access to more resources at a fraction of the cost.
During this period, users can:
· Download the entire ebook
· Keep a copy of the entire ebook in PDF format
Customised Collection Based on Your Needs
By the end of the agreement period, usage data will be evaluated to see which titles were used most. This ensures that the ebooks were purchased for long-term access align directly with what staff and students found most useful.
Smarter, More Efficient Use of Library Funds
EBA enables us to make informed decisions, so our budget goes further. Rather than purchasing resources upfront that may go unused, we invest in the materials that truly meet the demands of our faculty and students.
Increased Exposure to a Wide Range of Academic Books in Education
With 1,500 additional titles across areas of education, users have the opportunity to explore a wide range of content that they may not have sought out otherwise, and perhaps even discover new resources that encourage broader research in education.
How to Explore the EBA Titles
You might already notice these titles popping up in your library searches. Don’t hesitate to browse through the EBA collection and see what catches your eye!
