The anthology holds a unique position in the literary landscape of Singapore as a publishing format that drives the discovery of new writers by highlighting new voices alongside established authors. This differs from how the anthology's role has traditionally been more retrospective, as a collection of an author's best works or canonising a certain collection of work from a specific literary tradition.
The Anthology in Singapore: An Online Symposium, was co-organised by ELL and the NIE Library under the auspices of the Writers@NIE series. Held on 12 August 2020, editors, publishers, writers and scholars presented their thoughts on the anthology's place in Singapore to an audience of more than 80 participants. The programme consisted of nine presentations, three panel discussions and one talk. The event featured four themes.
