Tired of sitting down all day while you study and work? What if you could add a little more movement, like a gentle pedal, or perhaps find a comfortable space to stand instead of sitting in the library?
In January and February 2026, the library explored these active workstation ideas through a pilot. The initiative, titled Project MOVE (Motivate • Optimise • Vitalise • Energise), focused on small, sustainable movements to help library users stay focused, refreshed, and comfortable while they work.
As part of the project, an Active Learning Zone featuring three movement‑friendly workstations was set up in the Reserves section on Level 2. The workstations were:
Pedal‑n‑Work (desk bike)
Walk‑n‑Work (treadmill with standing desk)
Lean‑n‑Work (standing desk chair)
We asked users to try all the equipment, share their feedback, and vote for the equipment they liked best.
When the votes came in, it was clear that the Pedal-n-Work desk bike was the winner. Users loved that the Pedal-n-Work desk bike was quiet, allowing them to focus on their tasks without distraction. Many shared that it felt natural, enjoyable, and energising. Simply put, it's movement without distraction.
Through this project, it became clear that our users greatly enjoyed the equipment and found it beneficial for both their mental and physical well‑being. As a result, the equipment is now a permanent feature in the library spaces.
There are two Pedal-n-Work desk bikes on every level of the library. Two standing desks complete with privacy panels and anti‑fatigue mats can be found on Level 2. On Level 3, users can make use of desk converters which transform study spots into standing desks.
No booking is required; simply use the equipment on a first‑come, first‑served basis.
So whether you’re pedalling through a paper or standing tall while preparing for your lessons, we hope these additions bring a little more energy into your routine.
